What is Love?


This time of year we hear a lot of talk about love. We see hearts, candy, flowers, and chocolate all over the place. My sons will be exchanging tiny pictures of cartoon characters tomorrow with their friends to say Happy Valentines Day. This is all in good fun but it has made me think. Does our culture understand what love is? Have the times skewed our understanding of love? Check out what the Bible has to say about love then post your thoughts! After doing the search for "love" I realized that there are tons of verses on this subject!

I think that the world's focus on V-Day is romantic love. After reading several of the verses, it is evident that God's focus is on His love for us, our love for Him, and our love for other people. Ephesians 3:17-19 gives us a challenge as V-Day is arriving tomorrow...to try to understand how huge God's love is for us.

"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

When I think about love I am always reminded of when Jesus said, "No greater love than this, that man would lay down his life for another." It shows us that the ultimate Love is the Love of God. How much are we showing this love to people?
